Looking back over my shoulder to the time I was ten I would surely say that advocacy and politics were always part of me. But not politics the way people see them today only in the face of politicians and party battles, but politics as a tool to stable and sustainable change. When I was ten I drew posters calling all my neighbours to keep the space near the building where I lived clean, from that moment on I have never stopped being class representative, active citizen and volunteer for many different causes.
I have contributed to the development of a NGO back in Bulgaria that enhances the chances of youngsters who leave orphanages to find a suitable career and built a life on their own. I was a volunteer for Special Olympics Bulgaria and represented Bulgaria at the first of its kind Youth Activation Summit in the USA where a motion was drafted on the rights of people with learning difficulties. I was Bulgaria’s youth delegate to the United Nations’ Commission on Social Development and I will represent the University of Dundee at the Model European Union 2011 session in Strasbourg. In the mean time I actively contribute to the development of a NGO in Bulgaria by being responsible for the maintenance of its blog and roundtable discussions organisation.

Vice President
My name is Mat and I am third year student of International Relations and Politics. I am passionate about the Middle East conflict and world Politics in general.
Since joining the society, I've become the VP and I thoroughly enjoy my time organising events and conferences. Recently I have been responsible in getting ambassadors and consuls involved in our events, concluding in our event, 'Diplomacy of the EU' with the French consul general, Pierre-Alain Coffinier coming to Dundee to speak to us.
This year was my first time attending a Model United Nations conference, but believe me it was not the last. I relished the chance to speak up and debate from a different country's position instead of only using the UK or Poland, my home country, as a focal point.

Ines Foidl
Secretary
Hi everyone, I am Ines (pronounced Eenes - for all those of you not versed in the Germanic languages) and I am from Austria. I am a third year student doing a joint degree in History and International Relations, so if you see me around the History Society, that's why. I love to snowboard (when I'm home in the Alps where they know what to do with snow - sorry couldn't resist ;P) and love to do lots of travelling, it is one of my goals in life to see every continent at least twice! Therefore I have a big appetite for seeing new countries and cultures, which is one of the reasons I am so interested in diplomacy, because I think it is crucial to maintain a dialogue between all the different cultures for a prosperous and happy world. From early on, I was interested in what was happening around the world and near me, so I tried to participate and help out where I could concerning school representative councils, festivals etc. to broaden my horizons and soak up new knowledge.
I am the Secretary of the society so whenever you get minutes, they are from me :D I am quite good at organising things and love to be involved in this fun, creative new society.
If you've got any questions don't hesitate to contact me!

Hi, my name is Jivko Jeliazkov. Originally, I’m from Bulgaria, as are some of the other members of the society. I am a graduate of the American College of Sofia. Now, I am studying Law: Dual Qualifying Degree (both English and Scots) here at the University of Dundee, as a first year student. I joined the society as I have always been really interested in politics and public speaking and I think attending conferences does improve those skills immeasurably. Because I've got a variety of hobbies and interets like hiking, football, history, etc, I can include those passions for debating and offering different points of views.

Stefan Tomov
Grant Researcher
My name is Stefan Tomov and I am from Bulgaria. I am a first year MA Economics and Politics student at the University of Dundee. My interest in politics and international relations date back to high school when I was the president of the Model United Nations Club during my senior year there. I have been to conferences in Greece and the Netherlands with the club. In 2009 I was awarded in a national essay competition by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria about an essay on a topic regarding the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). I represented the University of Dundee as a member of the Diplomats@Dundee Society at the LIMUN 2011 and SCOTMUN 2011 conferences. This year I have also been selected to participate in the prestigious Model European Union as a Member of the European Parliament, the conference that will be held in the building of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.

Monika Smith
Conference Manager and our precious Head Delegate
My name is Monika Smith and I'm a second year Economics and International Relations student from Canada but incidentally with a Swiss passport - don't ask it's complicated. When I grow up I would like to major in International and Sustainable Development.
When I participated in my first Model United Nations conference in London in 2010, I was hooked and thought this was a perfect way of polishing my public speaking and debating skills as well as gain practical experience in how the UN works. That's why I participate annually in Model United Nations conferences and would like to attend larger (and not only MUN) international conferences in the future!
So far, it seems as if I end up being Head Delegate at conferences (with no real knowledge of how it happens, lol) but I guess me being very spontaneous helps and I believe that I'm improving my skills steadily - at least I hope so ;).

Euan McIntosh
Fundraising Officer
My name is Euan McIntosh, and I am the Fundraising Officer for Diplomats@Dundee. I’m currently in my first year at the University of Dundee studying European Studies and International Relations. As my other committee members have said, I also have been interested in international politics, and culture throughout the world, and like to keep up-to date with international news. Last year, instead of going to University straight from High School as most Scottish students do, I decided to expand my ‘comfort zone’. I participated in an exchange programme in the Lone Star State: Texas, USA. From this experience, I was introduced to not only American culture and politics by participating in Junior Statesmen of America, but I also learned about many more cultures such as Brazilian, German, Central American and many Asian cultures. In doing this exchange, I realised how important it is to maintain contact with the rest of the world, and create understanding between cultures. These are the reasons why I joined Diplomats@Dundee.
