Welcome to the Diplomats Society's webpage!
Also known as the Diplomats@Dundee Society, we are a new society established at the University of Dundee in September 2010 helping students attain real life experiences in foreign as well as current affairs, the European Parliament, the United Nations and other institutional networks. Our aim is, to provide the opportunity for students to get involved and become well-versed student diplomats equipped with skills of debate, compromise, conflict resolution and negotiation in the field of current affairs. To achieve that we are organising trips to international conferences (e.g. European Youth Parliament, Model European Union, Model United Nations, Youth Empowering Conferences et al) as well as visits to various sites of political interest (e.g. Scottish Parliament, European Union Parliament) to hone these skills and develop an even deeper awareness, understanding and involvement in global affairs. Furthermore, our society in late 2011 developed a project called Discover to Inspire, based on improving youth participation to help achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by the set target dates of 2015. We held a conference at the University of Dundee in May with 100 young people mainly from Europe with some from Africa, Asia and the US. The project was sponsored by the European Union Youth in Action programme. For more information please go to: http://www.discovertoinspire.org/ Words of our President: ~ Everyone in the Diplomats@Dundee Society believes youth’s voice should be taken more seriously into consideration and our actions today will enable us to become the decision-makers of tomorrow, decision-makers who will be experienced and educated to consider all sides of an issue and make the best judgement. By being active, productive and present at many international youth empowering conferences, we aim at showing how useful and resourceful young people can be in finding solutions to global and local problems. |
